Frequently Asked Questions

What class will my child be in? For our nursery and preschool, children are placed in their age-appropriate class (infants and toddlers to four years old). For elementary school, children are placed by grade (kindergarten to 5th grade). They’ll remain in the same class for the duration of the school year (August to June).

What should I bring for my infant/toddler? Please bring your child’s personal items (diaper bag, diapers, change of clothes, bottle or sippy cup). You can also bring a favorite blanket for their comfort and security. Please do not bring any of your child’s favorite toys. Please put your child’s name on everything you bring so our caregivers can be sure they are returned. Baggage tags are provided to identify each child’s diaper bag.

What is your wellness policy? For the health and well-being of all children and leaders in McBIC Kids, we ask that children are kept home if you suspect any of the following signs of illness:

  • Fever within the last 24 hours

  • Cough

  • Sore throat

  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea

  • Runny nose with colored discharge

  • Any skin infection or unexplained rash

  • Head lice

  • Irritability, lethargy, persistent crying, or difficulty breathing

  • Any obvious discomfort or illness

  • Any other contagious symptoms of childhood diseases

What happens if my child gets upset when I leave? Our volunteers will work with you to find the best way to comfort your child. In most cases, crying stops a few moments after parents leave and becomes less common with regular attendance. If your child continues to cry after 10 or 15 minutes, our volunteers will contact you on your cell phone.

Who are your volunteers? Most of our volunteer staff consists of adults who are experienced and loving parents and grandparents themselves. Before serving in McBIC Kids, every volunteer completes an application with references, a personal interview, all background checks required in Pennsylvania, plus a national background check. We also welcome teens to assist with the care, and they are required to fill out the same application with references as well as a personal interview.

Does McBIC have a nursing room? Our parenting room is located to the left of the front lobby next to the nursery hallway. The room is equipped with comfortable rockers, a monitor to watch the worship service, and privacy screens for nursing mothers.

What is your check-in process? When you arrive at McBIC, head to the parking lot on the left side of the church building and enter through the side door. If this is your first time at McBIC, our greeters will collect some basic information to help us care for your child and will give you and your child matching security labels. If your child has been with us before, simply enter your phone number on one of our tablets to print out your security labels. One of our greeters will then walk with you and your child to their classroom, where you will have the opportunity to see their class and meet their teacher.

If you’d like to save time at check-in, first-time families can use our online registration page to submit their basic information before Sunday morning.

What is your pick-up process? At the end of your morning, return to your child’s classroom and tell the teacher your child’s name. They will match up your security card with your child’s name badge and release them to you.

If you will be involved in programs at our church throughout both service times, you can check in your child (infant to pre-K) at the beginning of the first service and pick them up after the second service ends. Since our elementary school students worship with their families in our 11 a.m. service and are dismissed to McBIC Kids before the sermon, you will need to pick up your elementary school student after both services. If you plan to attend a Sunday school class during the 11 a.m. service, we encourage you to touch base with your child’s small group leader to make sure they have someone to sit with in the worship service.
